Judge Margaret Mullen retired from 19th Judicial Circuit Court of Lake County, Illinois in December of 2017 after a 25-year judicial career. She sat in the Law Division for 14 years, where she presided over civil litigation including personal injury, commercial and insurance coverage matters, as well as administrative review.
While on the bench, Judge Mullen successfully pre-tried myriad civil matters, resulting in resolution prior to trial. She was active in judicial education at EdCon, presenting seminars on medical malpractice litigation, Supreme Court Rule 213 and Best Tips For Civil Judges. She presented at EdCon again on Medical Malpractice in 2018.
She served as Chief Judge of the 19th Judicial Circuit for two years, and also during her career served as the Presiding Judge of the Consolidated Family Division, the Law Division, and the Juvenile Division. Prior to sitting in the Law Division, Judge Mullen sat in Chancery Court, hearing complex civil litigation. Between 1997 and 2000, she was assigned to Family Court, where she handled dissolution, custody, and parentage matters, from filing to post-decree.In addition to her Mediation and Arbitration practice, Judge Mullen is adjunct faculty to the College of Lake County, Business Division, teaching Business Law and paralegal courses.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Before beginning her judicial career, Judge Mullen practiced in both the private and public sectors. She handled civil litigation at the Chicago-based firm of Tressler, Soderstrom, Maloney and Priess (now Tressler, LLP), before starting her own firm where she continued her civil litigation practice. Judge Mullen served as an Assistant State’s Attorney in both the Lake County and DuPage County State’s Attorneys Offices.
